Biography
E.C. Segar was a British cartoonist best known for creating the comic strip character Popeye the Sailor. Born on December 21, 1894, in Chester, England, Segar began his career in the newspaper industry at a young age. He is most famous for his work on the comic strip "Thimble Theatre," which originally featured the character Olive Oyl and later introduced Popeye in 1929. Popeye quickly became a popular and enduring character, appearing in comic strips, animated films, and various other media. Segar died on October 13, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 38.
