Ed Asner was an American actor best known for his role as Lou Grant on *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* (1970–1977), a sitcom, and later on *Lou Grant* (1977–1982), a drama. He is one of the few television actors to have portrayed the same character in both comedic and dramatic formats. Asner's portrayal of the gruff but lovable newsroom manager became one of his most iconic performances, earning him critical acclaim and a lasting legacy in television history.
