Biography
Édgar Filiberto Ramírez Arellano ([ˈeðɣaɾ raˈmiɾes], born March 25, 1977) is a Venezuelan actor. He studied communications at the Andrés Bello Catholic University before working in media and considering a career in diplomacy. After filmmaker Guillermo Arriaga praised a short film he had directed, Ramírez decided to pursue acting professionally.
Ramírez portrayed a CIA assassin in the action-thriller *The Bourne Ultimatum* (2007). His performance as Carlos the Jackal in the 2010 biographical television miniseries *Carlos* earned him the César Award for Most Promising Actor, along with Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations for Best Actor. He later played a CIA operative in *Zero Dark Thirty* (2012) and boxer Roberto Durán in the biographical sports film *Hands of Stone* (2016).
Ramírez received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Gianni Versace in the 2018 miniseries *The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story*. In 2020, he appeared in a recurring role in the HBO miniseries *The Undoing*. In 2022, he served on the Un Certain Regard jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
