Eleanor Roosevelt

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was an influential American political figure, diplomat, and activist, best known for her role as First Lady during her husband Franklin D. Roosevelt's four presidential terms from 1933 to 1945. She redefined the position through her public engagement, advocacy, and extensive travels. After becoming a widow in 1945, she continued her public service as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1945 to 1952. In this role, she played a central part in shaping and promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Her efforts earned her international recognition, including a standing ovation in 1948 when the declaration was adopted. President Harry S. Truman honored her by calling her the "First Lady of the World."
