Biography

Emilio Fernández Romo, known as "El Indio," was a prominent Mexican film director, screenwriter, and actor, celebrated for his contributions during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema in the 1940s and 1950s. He directed several acclaimed films, with his 1944 film *María Candelaria* marking a significant achievement as the first Mexican film to win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Fernández was also active as an actor, appearing in numerous films in both Mexico and Hollywood. His work remains influential in the history of Latin American cinema.
