Biography
Eric Foner is an American historian whose research focuses on American political history, the concept of freedom, the early Republican Party, African‑American biography, the Civil War and Reconstruction. He has been a faculty member in Columbia University’s Department of History since 1982 and has written several textbooks that are widely used, including the Give Me Liberty! series for high school classrooms. The Open Syllabus Project lists him as the most frequently cited author on college history syllabi, indicating his considerable influence within historical scholarship.
