Éva Magyar

Éva Magyar was born on July 7, 1961 in Budapest, Hungary. She is an actress and director, known for *X-Men: First Class* (2011), *Let Me Go* (2017), and *Villmark 2* (2015). She was a gymnast and studied classical ballet. She received her diploma from the University of Film and Theatre in Budapest, and played several roles in major art theatres until 1990, when she took a leading part in an American film called *Understudy* in San Francisco. In 1994, she founded her own physical theatre company, The Shamans, where she wrote and directed the shows in addition to performing in them. She received many awards in Europe, the US, and Egypt. She also taught acting at Yale and several other US universities. In 2003, she began working with English companies, including The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Globe, and The Gate, and was invited to play Yseult in *Tristan and Yseult* at The Royal National Theatre, where she later worked on multiple occasions. She moved to London in 2010. While extensively working on stage, she also appeared in films, including *X-Men: First Class*, *Let Me Go*, and *Overlord*. Her recent appearance at The National Theatre was in *Hedda Gabler*, directed by Ivo van Hove and starring Ruth Wilson.
