Biography
Frank Kimball Berry was an American chess administrator, magician, historian, and banker. He held the rank of International Arbiter and Organizer, a distinction from FIDE achieved by only a few Americans. Berry sponsored two U.S. Chess Championships (2007–08) and organized tournaments for over 55 years. A former paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, he later worked in banking, including as a credit manager at 3M Financial and a major stockholder in Southwest Bancorp. Berry also performed at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles and served as an arbiter at the GM Eduard Gufeld Chess Club in Hollywood during his time in California from 1977 to 2002.
