Geoffrey Bennett Ulrich

He attended Kingswood-Oxford High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, graduating in 1988. He was involved in the theater club, typically working behind the scenes. He credited athletics with improving his academic performance during his senior year, when he competed on the varsity cross-country team. He also qualified for the state finals in varsity track for the 800-meter race. He initially majored in Biology before switching to Creative Writing at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he graduated in 1992 with distinction (cum laude) and was inducted into the English Honor Society. During college, he performed skits at coffee houses and on the radio, and published humor and poetry in the college paper and a magazine. He continued competing in varsity cross-country and varsity track until shin splints developed into bone fractures, which forced him to quit. He moved to Los Angeles in 1993 and watches ten movies a week.
