Georgia Hale

In 1922, Georgia won a beauty contest and moved to New York to pursue a career in theater, but without success. She then relocated to Hollywood, where she worked as a bit player in several films. Georgia's first major opportunity came when she was cast in *The Salvation Hunters* (1925). Her performance in that film led to her being hired by Charlie Chaplin to play the role of Georgia, the dance-hall girl who wins his character's heart, in *The Gold Rush* (1925). The film's success made Georgia an instant celebrity, and she was subsequently signed by Paramount Pictures. Her most notable film with Paramount was *The Great Gatsby* (1926), in which she portrayed Myrtle Wilson. However, her career did not continue to flourish, and her final film was the silent picture *The Last Moment* (1928). Deemed unsuitable for the transition to talkies, she was among the first to be let go.
