Biography

Hugo Carvana de Hollanda (Rio de Janeiro, June 4, 1937 – Rio de Janeiro, October 4, 2014) was a Brazilian film and television actor and director. Early in his career, he was associated with scoundrel-type characters and appeared in several Brazilian New Wave (Cinema Novo) films. Later, he transitioned to starring and directing comedies, including his directorial debut and self-starred film "Vai Trabalhar Vagabundo!" (1973), and his final film "A Casa da Mãe Joana 2" (2013). In his later years, he also frequently appeared in Brazilian soap operas.

Carvana died on October 4, 2014, from complications caused by lung cancer.
