Biography
Inna Shevchenko is a Ukrainian feminist activist and a prominent leader of the international women's movement FEMEN. Shevchenko and her group are known for their bold, often topless protests, targeting what they perceive as symbols of patriarchy, such as dictatorship, religion, and the sex industry. Shevchenko gained international attention in 2011 after she and two other FEMEN activists were reportedly kidnapped and threatened by the Belarus KGB. In 2012, she further drew public attention in Ukraine by using a chainsaw to cut down a 4-meter-high Christian cross in central Kyiv. Her high-profile actions have made her a central figure in FEMEN's activism.
