Biography

Irving Berlin was a Russian-born American songwriter known for his contributions to the Great American Songbook. He received several awards for his work, including an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award. In 1977, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Gerald R. Ford. Broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite acknowledged Berlin's cultural impact, saying he "helped write the story of this country, capturing the best of who we are and the dreams that shape our lives."
