Biography

Isabel Sarli was discovered by filmmaker Armando Bo and became the star of his films, beginning with *El trueno entre las hojas* (1957), released in 1956. Her nude scenes in this drama—arguably the first in Argentinian cinema—and in the soft-porn films that followed were met with strong criticism and condemnation in Argentina. Despite censorship and persecution, she rose to international fame, working in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Panama, and Venezuela. Films such as *Fuego* (1969) and *Fiebre* (1971) found audiences in the American and European markets. While she was particularly effective in sex comedies like *La mujer del zapatero* (1965), Bo consistently cast her in naturalistic melodramas. After Bo's death in 1981, Isabel Sarli retired and made only occasional appearances in films directed by others.
