Biography

Issa López is a Mexican director, writer, and producer. Twelve Spanish-language feature films have been produced from her scripts, four of which she directed. She has received several literary awards, including the National Novel Award from Mexico's Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in 2007.

In 2017, *Tigers Are Not Afraid* (*Vuelven* in Spanish) premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. Written and directed by López, the film won the Best Horror Director Award and went on to receive fifty-one awards at film festivals worldwide, including three Diosas de Plata awards for Best Picture and Best Director. It was also nominated for ten Ariel Awards, winning two. The film received positive reviews from major trade publications and critics, and holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. López is currently developing projects with Guillermo del Toro, Noah Hawley, and Jason Blum. She directed and co-wrote all episodes of the fourth season of HBO's *True Detective*, which aired in January and February 2024 as *True Detective: Night Country*.
