Biography

Dr. Jabbar Patel is a former pediatrician and Marathi-language theatre and film director from India. He is best known for his 1973 production of Vijay Tendulkar's play *Ghashiram Kotwal*, which is regarded as a classic in modern Indian theatre. Patel has received numerous accolades for his contributions to Indian cinema and theatre, including seven National Film Awards, eight Maharashtra State Film Awards, and seven Filmfare Awards Marathi. He was honored with the Filmfare Marathi Lifetime Achievement Award at the 7th Filmfare Awards Marathi. Patel also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1978 and the V. Shantaram Award in 2005, which is considered Maharashtra's highest cinematic honor. In 1982, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India, one of the country's highest civilian honors.
