Biography

Jane Mary Thorne, baronne de Pierres (1821–1873), was a French courtier of American origin who served as a lady-in-waiting to Empress Eugénie de Montijo of France. Born in the United States, she became a prominent figure at the French court during the Second French Empire. Her role as a lady-in-waiting placed her in close attendance to the empress, where she was involved in the ceremonial and social duties of the imperial household. Thorne's presence at court reflected the international influences within the French aristocracy during the 19th century.
