Biography

Jay Silverheels was a First Nations and Mohawk actor and athlete, descended from three Iroquois nations. He is best known for his role as Tonto, the Native American companion of the Lone Ranger, in the American Western television series *The Lone Ranger*. His portrayal of Tonto made him a widely recognized figure in popular culture during the 1950s.
