Biography

John Sayles, writer of *Lone Star*, was a bright child who began reading novels before the age of 9. A graduate of Williams College in 1972, he avoided a corporate career in favor of working various blue-collar jobs, including a factory position in East Boston. During this time, he wrote stories and submitted them to various magazines. The Atlantic Monthly suggested compiling them into a novel, leading to the publication of *Pride of the Bimbos* in 1975.
