Biography

Josip Broz Tito was a Yugoslav communist revolutionary and politician who served as prime minister of the country from 1943 to 1963 and as president from 1953 until his death in 1980. As the leader of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, he played a central role in shaping the nation's post-war political landscape. During World War II, Tito served as the supreme commander of the Yugoslav Partisans, a resistance movement that became a key force in the region. He was also one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement, a group of countries seeking to remain independent of the major Cold War alliances. The political ideology and policies associated with his leadership are collectively known as Titoism.
