Biography
Karen Ruth Bass is an American politician who has served as the 43rd mayor of Los Angeles since 2022. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously represented California's 37th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2022. Before her time in Congress, Bass served in the California State Assembly from 2004 to 2010, during which she became the first woman and first African American to hold the position of Assembly Speaker.
