Biography

Kate Vernon was born to the celebrated actor John Vernon. When Kate was seven years old, the family moved from Canada to Hollywood as her father's career gained momentum in the United States. With John Vernon's growing success in films such as *Dirty Harry* (1971), *The Outlaw Josey Wales* (1976), and *National Lampoon's Animal House* (1978), Kate's childhood was shaped by close exposure to many of Hollywood's leading actors, writers, and artists. These early experiences influenced her decision to pursue acting after completing her studies at an acting school. Her striking appearance, energetic personality, and dedicated work ethic soon attracted attention, and in the early 1980s, she began securing roles.

In the mid-1980s, Kate landed her first feature film role as "Benny" in the box office hit *Pretty in Pink* (1986). The film's success opened further opportunities, leading to roles in television, box office films, and independent movies, where she appeared alongside actors such as Denzel Washington, Willem Dafoe, Edward James Olmos, Christopher Lee, and Richard Thomas. Over the course of her career, Kate has portrayed a wide range of characters, including the beautiful, the comedic, the dramatic, the misunderstood, the mistress, and the mother. Among her more recent film roles are those in *The Last Song* (2010), which also featured Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear, Liam Hemsworth, and Kelly Preston, and *National Lampoon's Snatched* (2014), in which she appeared alongside Andrew McCarthy and Ernest Borgnine.

Kate's versatility as an actress has led to appearances in popular television series such as *Heroes* (2006), *Bones* (2005), *CSI: Crime Scene Investigation* (2000), *The Mentalist* (2008), *Saving Grace* (2007), and her recurring role as "Ellen Tigh" (2004–2009) in *Battlestar Galactica* (2004). Her career has also seen her collaborate with notable figures in the industry, including Spike Lee, Peter Medak, Ronald D. Moore, David Eick, Joe Cacaci, David Weddle, Michael Nankin, and John Woo. Over the span of her 40-year career, she has appeared in recurring and guest roles on major television series such as *Heroes* (2006–2010), *CSI: Crime Scene Investigation* (2000–2009), *Star Trek: Voyager* (1995), *Nash Bridges* (1996–1997), *Battlestar Galactica* (2004–2009), *L.A. Law* (1986–1994), *Bones* (2005–2010), *Tales from the Crypt* (1989–1993), and *Who's the Boss?* (1984–1990).
