Biography

Kathleen Gallagher is a non-profit executive and journalist based in Wisconsin, recognized for her award-winning explanatory journalism. In 2011, she received the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for her collaboration with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Mark Johnson. The pair co-authored the book *One in a Billion: The Story of Nic Volker and the Dawn of Genomic Medicine*, which is based on their Pulitzer Prize-winning news series. The book details the case of Nic Volker, a young boy whose rare genetic condition was identified through innovative genomic sequencing, a development that marked a significant milestone in medical science. Gallagher currently holds the position of Executive Director at 5 Lakes Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing technology and innovation, and serves as Executive in Residence for Investment Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
