He is part of the "Four Heavenly Kings of Pink," a group that also includes directors Takahisa Zeze, Toshiki Satō, and Hisayasu Sato. Sano's films are characterized by their emphasis on relationships and romance, setting them apart from the more violent and sadistic elements common in other pink films of the time.
