Zooey Deschanel Fought for Lamorne Morris’ Casting on New Girl
“Zooey Deschanel, a star and producer of the sitcom 'New Girl,' revealed that she and her cast had to campaign to bring Lamorne Morris on board. Morris joined the show in Season 1 to replace the character Coach, played by Damon Wayans Jr., who left to return to 'Happy Endings.' Deschanel shared that Morris was initially considered for the role but had to step aside for another pilot. Despite this, she and her co-stars believed in his talent and worked to secure his casting. Deschanel emphasized that Morris was the best fit for the role and that his eventual inclusion was a crucial decision for the show's success. She noted that Morris' later Emmy win for 'Fargo' proved his talent and that the show could not have succeeded without him.”
