Biography

Logan Thompson is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). After playing junior hockey with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League (WHL), Thompson went undrafted and played in U Sports, the ECHL, and the American Hockey League (AHL) before signing with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020. He gained significant NHL playing time during the 2021–22 season due to injuries to other goalies, becoming the first former U Sports goaltender to start an NHL game in over 30 years. Thompson became Vegas' starting goaltender in 2022–23, was named an NHL All-Star in 2023, and won the Stanley Cup that year. After one more season with Vegas, he was traded to Washington, where he became their starting goaltender and signed a six-year contract extension. Internationally, Thompson has represented Canada, winning silver medals at the 2022 World Championship and the 2026 Winter Olympics.
