Biography
Norwegian screenwriter and director Magnus Martens (b. 1973) is known for his stylish and violent action sequences, combined with humor and entertainment. He gained wider recognition with the 2011 feature film *Jackpot*, which he wrote and directed based on a story by Jo Nesbø. The film was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival and received praise for its dark tone, with critics drawing comparisons to directors such as Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers.
After the success of *Jackpot*, Martens directed multiple episodes for several major U.S. television series, including *Banshee*, *12 Monkeys*, *Power*, *Marvel’s Luke Cage*, *Good Behavior*, *Longmire*, *Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.*, *Will*, and *Fear the Walking Dead*. In 2020, he directed the first two episodes of *The Walking Dead: World Beyond*, which premiered in October.
Martens' 2021 film *SAS: Red Notice*, starring Sam Heughan, Ruby Rose, and Tom Wilkinson, premiered in the UK and U.S. in March 2021 and was released on Netflix in August 2021. He also directed *Furia*, an original drama series created by Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen, which premiered on Viaplay in September 2021.
