Biography

Mamoru Oshii is a Japanese filmmaker, television director, and writer. He directed *Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer* (1984), *Angel's Egg* (1985), *Patlabor 2: The Movie* (1993), and *Ghost in the Shell* (1995). He also directed *Dallos* (1983), which is recognized as the first original video animation (OVA).

In addition to directing, Oshii has worked as a screenwriter and contributed to manga and novels. He created the manga *Kerberos Panzer Cop* (1988–2000), which was adapted into the film *Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade* (1999). His work frequently addresses complex themes and is noted for its visual style.
