Biography
Marion Davies was an American actress, producer, screenwriter, and philanthropist who began her career as a chorus girl. Educated in a religious convent, she left to pursue stage work, appearing in several Broadway musicals and making a brief film appearance in *Runaway Romany* (1917). She became a featured performer in the Ziegfeld Follies and met newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst during the 1916 Follies. At nineteen, she became Hearst's mistress, and he took control of her career, promoting her as a film actress.
