Biography
Maunu Kurkvaara was a Finnish film director and screenwriter, known for initiating the "new wave" of Finnish cinema, inspired by the French New Wave. Active from 1955 to 1993, he directed 22 films, many of which featured nautical themes reflecting his passion for the sea. His film Yksityisalue was selected for the 13th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1965, he co-produced the film 4x4, which was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival.
