Biography

Mavis Staples is an American rhythm and blues and gospel singer and civil rights activist who became well known as a member of the Staple Singers, a family band. As the group's youngest and last surviving member, she contributed to hit songs such as "I'll Take You There" and "Let's Do It Again." After her time with the Staple Singers, Staples began her solo career in 1969 with the release of her self-titled debut album. Known for her powerful voice and commitment to social justice, she has remained a prominent figure in American music and activism.
