Biography
Maya Angelou was an influential American memoirist, poet, and civil rights activist, best known for her groundbreaking autobiography *I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings* (1969). This first of her seven autobiographies recounts her life up to the age of 17 and brought her widespread recognition. Over her career, Angelou authored numerous works, including essays, poetry collections, and plays, while also contributing to film, television, and theater. A prominent voice in the civil rights movement, she received numerous awards and over 50 honorary degrees. Her literary contributions remain celebrated for their emotional depth and powerful storytelling.
