Biography

Michael Thomas Flynn is a retired United States Army lieutenant general who served as the 24th U.S. national security advisor during the early days of the Trump administration. He resigned after it was revealed he had lied about discussions with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Flynn’s military career included significant involvement in shaping U.S. counterterrorism strategy and dismantling insurgent networks during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, as well as numerous high‑level intelligence assignments. He served as the 18th director of the Defense Intelligence Agency from July 2012 until his forced retirement in August 2014. Flynn delivered a lecture on leadership at the headquarters of the Russian military intelligence directorate GRU in Moscow, becoming the first American official granted access to the facility.
