Biography

Michael "Mike" Hanson was a Hong Kong press secretary, best known for his role as the spin doctor and head of Governor Chris Patten's war room from 1992 to 1994. He played a central role in promoting Patten's controversial 1994 Hong Kong electoral reform, which sparked significant political controversy and contributed to tensions surrounding the handover of Hong Kong to China. Hanson is also recognized for introducing political public relations into government operations and for serving as the government's coordinator for Vietnamese asylum seekers in Hong Kong.
