Biography

Michele Yu is a Los Angeles–based production designer who works in collaboration with Cindy Chao. The two formed a creative partnership during their undergraduate studies at UC San Diego, and have continued to work together for over fifteen years in film and television production.

Yu’s career includes a range of credits across feature films and television, where she has served as production designer. These include *Much Ado About Nothing* (2012), *Grandma* (2015), *In Your Eyes* (2014), and *V/H/S Viral* (2014).

Her work on *A Black Lady Sketch Show* (2019) has drawn particular attention. Alongside Chao and set decorator Lizzie Boyle, she has received multiple Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety or Reality Series. In 2022, they were nominated for their work on the episode “Anybody Have Something I Can Flog Myself With?” and in 2023 for the episode “Peek-a-Boob, Your Titty’s Out.” Their production design for the series has also earned multiple nominations for the Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Award.
