Biography

James Ure, known professionally as Midge Ure, is a Scottish singer-songwriter and record producer. He gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980s as a member of bands such as Slik, Thin Lizzy, Rich Kids, Visage, and Ultravox, which he led after John Foxx's departure. Ure achieved widespread recognition for co-writing and producing the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in 1984, which he organized with Bob Geldof for the supergroup Band Aid. The single became the second-highest-selling in UK chart history and remains a Christmas staple. Ure also co-organized the Live Aid and Live 8 charity events and serves as a trustee for Band Aid and an ambassador for Save the Children.
