Biography

George Thomas Moore Marriott was an English character actor known for his work with comedian Will Hay. He first appeared with Hay in the 1935 film *Dandy Dick*, and became a regular supporting actor in Hay's films from 1936 to 1940. During this time, Marriott played the elderly character "Jeremiah Harbottle," a role he had previously performed in the 1920s. The Harbottle character was originally created by Hay for his "The Fourth Form at St. Michael's" stage and radio sketches, and Marriott's portrayals helped define the character in film.
