Biography
Muhammad Shahin (1932 – 2004) was a Syrian film director. He was born in 1931 and is regarded as one of the founders of the second generation of Syrian cinema. Shahin served as Director General of the General Film Organization in Damascus, founded the Damascus International Film Festival, and was married to actress Mona Wassef. He was among the first Syrian directors to present work at the General Film Organization; his debut film was Flower of the City (1965). In addition to feature films, he produced several documentaries. His films are primarily romantic in theme and aim for poetic realism, combining an artistic vision with popular appeal. Shahin directed nineteen feature films, making him one of Syria’s most prolific directors.
