Biography
Nick Brown is a British former politician and trade unionist who represented the constituency of Newcastle upon Tyne East as its Member of Parliament from 1983 to 2024. A long-standing member of the Labour Party, he left the party in 2023. Brown served as Chief Whip for the Labour Party over an extended period, holding the role intermittently under multiple party leaders, including Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Ed Miliband, Jeremy Corbyn, and Keir Starmer, from 1997 to 2021. Known for his lengthy parliamentary career and his role in managing party affairs, Brown is acknowledged as the longest-serving Labour Chief Whip in the party's history.
