Biography
Noboru Tanaka was a Japanese film director known for his work in the Roman Porno genre. He directed three critically praised films that are collectively referred to as the Showa trilogy: *A Woman Called Sada Abe* (1975), *Watcher in the Attic* (1976), and *Beauty's Exotic Dance: Torture!* (1977). All three films starred Junko Miyashita, a leading actress in Nikkatsu's Roman Porno films. *A Woman Called Sada Abe* was released prior to Nagisa Oshima's *In the Realm of the Senses* (1976), which also depicted the same real-life story. During his career, Tanaka was less prominent than directors such as Tatsumi Kumashiro and Chūsei Sone, but he is now considered by critics to be the most accomplished director in Nikkatsu's Roman Porno series.
