Biography
Nury Martinez was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. The daughter of immigrant parents, she admired their hard work and learned the importance of community involvement. She graduated from California State University, Northridge in 1996. Martinez was elected to the 6th District of the Los Angeles City Council on July 23, 2013, in a special election, and was elected to a full term on March 3, 2015. Before her election to the city council, she served on the 6th District of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education from 2009 to 2013. She resides in the Sun Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley with her husband, Gerry, and daughter, Isabelle.
