Robin Weigert

Robin Weigert is an American actress known primarily for her television roles. She was born in 1969 in Washington, D.C., to psychiatrist Wolfgang Oscar Weigert and Dionne Laufman. Her father, originally from Berlin, Germany, had emigrated to the United States decades before her birth. Weigert is of Jewish heritage. She attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, a secular, non-sectarian, coeducational institution supported by the Jewish-American community, and graduated in 1991 at the age of 22. She then enrolled in the Graduate Acting Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, located in Manhattan, New York City. After graduating, she spent the early years of her career as a theatrical actress in New York before moving to Los Angeles in pursuit of more opportunities.

Weigert began her television career with cameo roles in television films, including "Mary and Rhoda" (2000), a spin-off of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" (1970–1977). She appeared in guest roles on police procedural series such as "Law & Order," "Without a Trace," "NYPD Blue," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Her first recurring role was as Detective Anna Mayes in the early seasons of "Cold Case" (2003–2010), a police procedural in which Mayes, a former colleague of one of the main characters, occasionally assists in solving cold cases. From 2004 to 2006, she played Martha Jane "Calamity Jane" Canary in the Western series "Deadwood" (2004–2006), set in the 1870s in the Dakota Territory. Her portrayal of the rough, foul-mouthed frontierswoman earned critical praise and earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which went to Drea de Matteo that year.

The role brought her increased attention, leading to film roles in "Loggerheads" (2005), "The Good German" (2006), and "Things We Lost in the Fire" (2007), and a more substantial part in "Synecdoche, New York" (2008), where she played the adult version of Olive Cotard. She returned to television in 2010 with a recurring role as lawyer Ally Lowen in "Sons of Anarchy" (2008–2014), a contemporary Western about an outlaw motorcycle club. Lowen appeared in Seasons 3, 5, and 6. In 2013, she played the lead role of Abby Ableman in the lesbian-themed drama "Concussion," for which she was nominated for a Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor, which was won by Michael B. Jordan that year.

In 2015, Weigert joined the cast of "Jessica Jones" (2015–) in its first season as Dr. Wendy Ross-Hogarth, the wife of lawyer Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss). In 2016, she provided voice acting as the villain Scatterspike in the animated series "Transformers: Robots in Disguise" (2015–2017), a member of the Scavengers, a subgroup of the Decepticons. In 2017, she played CIA agent Heather Myles in the British mini-series "Fearless," the main antagonist of the series, and also appeared as Dr. Amanda Reisman in "Big Little Lies" (2017–), a therapist for a married couple. In 2018, she played Verena Baptist in the black comedy mini-series "Dietland," a body-positive therapist and feminist activist whose life lessons may have inspired a vigilante group. From 2018 to 2019, she played Jamie Hudson in the third and final season of "Berlin Station" (2016–2019), a college friend of a main character. In 2019, she reprised her role as Calamity Jane in "Deadwood: The Movie," a sequel set in 1889 as South Dakota becomes a U.S. state. By 2019, Weigert was 50 years old.
