Biography

Roland Curram was an actor and novelist known for roles including Julie Christie's traveling companion in the Oscar-winning film *Darling* and expatriate Freddie in the BBC soap opera *Eldorado*. He was married to actress Sheila Gish from 1964 to 1985, and together they had two daughters, actors Lou Gish (1967–2006) and Kay Curram (b. 1974). Curram came out as gay in the early 1990s, prior to playing Freddie, a gay character who had been previously married and had a daughter. In the early 2000s, he left acting to pursue a second career as a writer, authoring novels such as *The Problem with Happiness*, *Mother Loved Funerals*, *Man on the Beach*, and his memoir *Which Way to Love?* He died in 2025 at the age of 93.
