Susan Eloise Hinton is an American writer known for her young-adult novels, particularly *The Outsiders* (1967), which she wrote while still in high school. Set in Oklahoma, the novel explores themes of social division and adolescence, and is credited with helping to establish the young-adult genre. Hinton continued to write several other novels that resonated with young readers, often drawing on her own experiences growing up in the Midwest.
