Biography
Sally Kristen Ride was an American astronaut and physicist who became the first American woman and the third woman overall to travel to space. She was born in Southern California and was selected by NASA in 1978. She made her historic spaceflight in 1983 at the age of 32, which also made her the youngest American astronaut to fly in space at that time. Ride's work in space exploration and science had a lasting impact, encouraging future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM fields.
