    Biography

Josef "Sepp" Allgeier was a German cinematographer known for his work on approximately fifty feature films, documentaries, and short films. He began his career in 1911 as a cameraman for the Expreß Film Co. in Freiburg im Breisgau and later filmed newsreels in the Balkans in 1913. Allgeier became an assistant to Arnold Fanck, a prominent director of Mountain films, and frequently collaborated with Luis Trenker and Leni Riefenstahl, both key figures in the genre. He served as Riefenstahl's lead cameraman on her 1935 propaganda film *Triumph of the Will*.

During World War II, Allgeier contributed to newsreel production. After the war, he continued his career in West German television. He is the father of cinematographer Hans-Jörg Allgeier, who followed in his professional footsteps.
