Biography

Serge Daney (June 4, 1944, Paris – June 12, 1992) was a French film critic. A major figure at *Cahiers du cinéma*, he co-edited the publication in the late 1970s. He also wrote extensively on film, television, and society for the newspaper *Libération* and founded the quarterly review *Trafic* shortly before his death. Widely respected in French and European film criticism circles, his work remains largely unknown to English-speaking audiences, primarily due to the lack of consistent translations.
