Biography

Stephan James (born December 16, 1993) is a Canadian actor. He gained recognition for his roles in several television series during his teenage years, and later achieved wider acclaim after winning a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of track and field athlete Jesse Owens in the 2016 film *Race*. In 2018, he appeared in Barry Jenkins' critically praised drama *If Beale Street Could Talk*, an adaptation of the James Baldwin novel of the same name. That same year, he played Walter Cruz in the Amazon series *Homecoming*, earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for his performance.
