Stephen Prince

Stephen Robert Prince was an American film critic, historian, and theorist known for his expertise in East Asian cinema and his academic contributions to film studies. He was a professor of Communication Studies and Cinema at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Among his influential works are *The Warrior's Camera: The Cinema of Akira Kurosawa* (1991) and *Savage Cinema: Sam Peckinpah and the Rise of Ultraviolent Movies* (1998). His scholarship and insights were frequently recognized by the Criterion Collection, where his commentary tracks appear in several of their film collections. Prince was widely respected for his deep knowledge and analysis of global cinema, particularly his work on Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.
