    Biography

Sukumari is a 1929 short silent film, recognized as the first film produced in Dhaka, then part of British India. Initiated by members of the Nawab family of Dhaka, it was directed by Ambuja Prasanna Gupta, who was inspired by the family's encouragement. The film was an experimental project, and its production marked a significant milestone in the region's cinematic history. All members of the cast and crew were residents of Dhaka, many of whom had no prior experience in filmmaking. As a result, the film's producers, director, and crew are regarded as pioneers of film production in Dhaka and in what would later become Bangladesh.
